Dermal fillers are a method of decreasing or temporarily eliminating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds. A colorless gel is injected into the facial tissue restoring a smoother appearance of the face.
There are a number of different kinds of dermal filler offered on the market today. They vary in the chemical composition and texture. The variation depends on what enhancements each individual client is looking to accomplish. Whether it be to sharpen and define the lip borders, add total lip volume, remove unwanted grooves on the sides of the nose, raise the drooping corners of the mouth, or flattening out creases between the eyes or on the chin.
Dermal filler chemical composition consists of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) type filler, or Calcium Hydroxy Apatite type filler. Some of which also contain Lidocaine, a local anesthetic to decrease the pain. HA type filler is a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body. HA has a cushioning effect and hydrates the skin, as it binds and holds onto water. HA can last for up to 1 year, and can be reversed if the client is unhappy with the results.
Calcium Hydroxy Apatite gives a similar effect, last for up to 1 year as well, but is less forgiving, as it cannot be reversed. Some filler has a viscous texture, as it is more granular, other more advanced filler is smooth, leaving a nice smooth desired finish.
